The sound of silence

Fibertex Nonwovens has designed a range of sound absorbing nonwoven products which offers advanced acoustic performance. These high-performing acoustic materials provide the freedom to create optimal solutions by combining noise reduction, innovative design, enhanced aesthetics and comfort.

FiberAcoustic® 450 is an environmentally-friendly sound absorption material, which is used in various building applications, including suspended ceilings or in acoustic wall panels and screens, offering a choice of face fabrics in any design or colour. These durable products can also be used by the automotive industry for creating absolute comfort; by original equipment manufacturers in product fabrications and furniture design, and also in the construction sector for reducing noise transported through a building.

FiberAcoustic 450 – available in white and black as standard – absorbs up to 97% of all sound waves and combines excellent noise reduction, enhanced aesthetics, flexible design and improved indoor climate.

“The Fibertex teams works closely with manufacturers, architects and specifiers to design the most efficient sound absorption system, offering solutions from product specification to the final solution, to effectively reduce noise,” explains Jurgens Jandries van Tonder, Fibertex Nonwovens SA, specialists in the manufacture and supply of nonwovens and performance-based materials. “Research shows that exposure to environmental noise affects quality of life, leading to elevated stress levels and illness. The World Health Organisation states, “Noise can cause hearing impairment, interfere with communication, disturb sleep, cause cardiovascular and psycho-physiological effects, reduce performance and provoke annoyance responses and changes in social behaviour.”

FiberAcoustic 450 is available from Fibertex Nonwovens SA in creative, customised designs and in any colour specifications, according to Pantone or NCS codes – with no compromise on performance. This durable product meets stringent international ISO and fire retardancy standards (classified B-s1, d0, according to EN ISO 13501-1 specifications) and is 100% recyclable.

FiberAcoustic has high puncture resistance and is able to withstand most impacts without being damaged or losing sound absorption performance. There is no need for the use of face masks or gloves during installation. This product is resistant to common cleaning detergents and can be easily vacuum cleaned or wiped with a damp cloth.

Fibertex manufactures needlepunched nonwoven acoustic materials that dampen footstep noise in hard-floor applications. These user-friendly products are used with or without a moisture barrier foil and overlapping seams. Fibertex products also compensate for minor unevenness in the subfloor construction.

In construction, where concrete slabs are used to separate individual storeys of a building, one layer of Fibertex nonwovens is used in between the slab and the cast concrete flooring to reduce noise transported through the building.

The Fibertex team also offers professional advice on how to incorporate acoustic materials into furniture for efficient sound absorption. Applications include office screen walls, sound absorbing surfaces on the back of bookcases and surfaces underneath desks and sofas.
